I was very torn between 'and then they snogged the end' and 'humourous pining and silliness and misunderstandings because they are Very Ridiculous And Awful' and evidently I have chosen the latter. Also it's now at 3k, which is where I expected to finish the entire fic, so?

I'm really leaning into the fluffy happy romance-y stuff for the Fancy Rock Fic, which is a welcome break from . . . the other fic, in which Gimli has been kidnapped by barrow-wights with little hope of rescue.

It's wonderful. Everyone is so squishy on the inside. Everything is vaguely rose-scented, misunderstandings do not result in anyone dying, I can be as cheesy as I like. This kicks ass. Everyone should write at least a little uncomplicated getting-together married-olds-who-dont-realise-they're-married fluff at least once. It's like a panacea for the specific stress I've been having.

He spoke of stone and sunlight for far too long, because Legolas had the trick of asking the interesting questions, of assuring him that someone was listening to him. They moved through the city together, and under Legolas' gaze it turned from hewn stone back to the dreams he had once had, the ghosts of grand architecture in his head shining in the torchlight again.

It was like coming home again, in some delicate way that he couldn't quite place.

It's just all like that! They're just happy and a bit confused! It's wonderful.

Spent a long, long time this weekend playing the Song of Durin on repeat while doing combinatorics problems and . . . gods, Tolkien just made the world's most interesting character and fuckin' forgot about him, huh? He just made this awesome dwarf mythology and then did almost nothing with the coolest bits of it. Fucked up. Man had a fixation on elves that led him to ignore The Best Boys. We* need more dwarf mythology, as a society.

I figure it's my responsibility, then, to make a proper dwarf-based legendarium. With dwarven women. And funky little goblins. And gratuitious descriptions of rocks.

I was having Thoughts(tm) about vampires for my worldbuilding_ex fic but. Foolishly. Instead of actually outlining that fic, which i do quite desperately need to do, I'm now outlining a fuckin . . . LoTR Gimli/Legolas werewolves-and-vampires AU.

(Legolas is the werewolf, of course, and Gimli is the vampire. He has a silly sunhat for the sun. It's somewhere between an affectionate parody and a serious murder mystery and a light-hearted meet-cute with an excess of teeth.)
